Albert D. Appleton, 76, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, passed away Tuesday evening, March 17, 2009, at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2009, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Ministry Intern J.T. Burk will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson -Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Albert's wishes were to be cremated following services. Private burial of ashes will be held at a later date in the Dayton Cemetery.

Albert DeLos Appleton was born on April 17, 1932, in Utica, New York, the son of Arthur and Helen (Purdy) Eggleston. He attended schools in the area of his birth. At the age of ten Albert was adopted by Rodley and Dorothy Appleton. He lived with them in Norfolk, Virginia, from 1942 until 1949, graduating with the Maury High School class of 1949. Following his education, Albert served his country in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1952.

In 1955, Albert was united in marriage to Jacquelyne Nordstrom in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Jacquelyne passed away in 1982. On May 14, 1983, he married Pat Pratt at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Albert worked at Coats Company, Joselyn Press and later worked as a photographer for Land O' Lakes for 20 years.

Albert was a former member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. He had served as President of the Dayton School Board, served on the Land O' Lakes Credit Union Board, was a Cub Master, and belonged to the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and enjoyed life to the fullest. Albert will always be remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandfather and was a great friend to many.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Appleton of Fort Dodge, Iowa; children, Allen (Lucila) Appleton of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Donald (Janie) Appleton of Timnath, Colorado, Bart (Mary) Appleton of Prescott, Wisconsin, Mindy (Mike) Arbuckle of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Shawn (Charlie) Pratt of Guerneville, California, Sandra (Dave) Pratt of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Sherry (Matt) Michalski of Dayton, Iowa; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and adoptive parents; and his first wife, Jacquelyne Appleton.
