August H. Gliem, 92, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2011, at Westhaven Community in Boone.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 9, 2011, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Gary Hoyt will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden with Military Graveside Rites presented by the Boone Veteran's Council. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.

August Harold Gliem was born on August 1, 1919, in Hayfield, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Mary (Welch) Gliem. He graduated with the Beaver High School class of 1938. On June 15, 1941, Gus was united in marriage to Caroline Hendershott in Beaver, Iowa. From May of 1942 through July of 1945, Gus served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Gus and Caroline owned and operated Gliem's News Stand in Ogden for twenty years, and he later worked in maintenance at Don Williams Park for Boone County Conservation. Gus also served as the Mayor of Ogden for 15 years beginning in 1976.

Gus belonged to the Edward J. Maas American Legion Post #55, Eastern Star, was a lifetime member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, and was a 50+ year member of both the Ogden Lion's Club and the Rhodes Masonic Lodge #303.

Among the survivors are his daughter, Sharon Lingren of Ogden, Iowa; two granddaughters, Wendi (David) Olerich of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Lynnell (Scott) Loudon of Ankeny, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Caroline in 2006; six brothers; and six sisters.
