Bessie M. Alexander, 95, of Ogden, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at the Ogden Manor. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 19, 2010, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Paul Evans will officiate. Burial will be at Boone Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Boone, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Bessie Maxine McGee was born on March 6, 1915, in Unionville, Missouri, the daughter of John and Lydia (Earles) McGee. As a child she moved with her family to Centerville, Iowa, where she later graduated High School. Bessie was united in marriage to Don C. Alexander on February 25, 1934, at the Methodist Church in Centerville, Iowa. She had worked at Montgomery Wards, as a C.N.A. at the Eastern Star Masonic Home, and later as a cook at Ledges Manor in Boone until retiring in 1977. Don and Bessie had lived in Boone County since 1949 and in the Ogden area since 1971. Bessie was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. She belonged to the Ogden Business Women, Garden Club, and McGraw Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed cooking, camping, and attending her great grandchildren's ballgames. Don and Bessie wintered in Texas for many years. Survivors include her daughter, Donna (Harley) Saunders of Ogden, Iowa; nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Christie Alexander of Boone, Iowa; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don Alexander; son, Ivan Alexander; one brother, Loren McGee; and one sister, Opal Kauzlarich. Memorials may be left to the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden.
