Cloyd L. Sundell, Jr.

January 18, 1932 — April 6, 2009

Cloyd L. Sundell Jr., 77, of Boxholm, Iowa, died suddenly Monday, April 6, 2009, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 10, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm. Rev. Rod Meyer will officiate. Burial will be at Lawn Cemetery, rural Boxholm. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Arthur - Anderson American Legion Post #63. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.

Cloyd Leonard Sundell was born on January 18, 1932, in rural Boone County, Iowa, the son of Cloyd and Emma (Peterson) Sundell Sr. He graduated with the Boxholm High School class of 1949. Junior served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Junior was united in marriage to Mary Lou Gibson on, March 29, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The couple established their home in Boxholm. Junior was a carpenter for many years and later was employed as the custodian at Grand Community Schools in Boxholm until retiring. Mary Lou passed away in 1990.

Junior belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm. He loved horses, rodeos, fishing, woodworking, going to flea markets, and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Junior was a 4-H Leader and served as the Superintendent of the Horse Committee at the Boone County Fair for several years.

Survivors include four children, Vickie (Tim) Anderson of Ogden, Iowa, Sue Shreve of Boxholm, Iowa, Doug (Mary) Sundell of Boxholm, Iowa, and Robin (Randy) Hensel of Boxholm, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Tonya (Chad) Curry, Toni Anderson, Justin Shreve, Kaylee (Joe) Uthe, Jesse (Kyndra) Sundell, Wade Sundell, D.J. Cilibert, Kolbe Sundell, and Tara Hensel; a great-granddaughter, Maliyah Sundell; two sisters, Gwen Scheetz of Boxholm, Iowa, and Donna (Bob) Stark of Fort Dodge, Iowa; one brother, Bill (Janene) Sundell of Humboldt, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Lou Sundell; and a brother-in-law, Jim Sheetz.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
