Everett Marion Underwood

Everett M. Underwood, 80, of Lehigh, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2013, with his wife by his side at the Stratford Nursing & Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the Christian Church in Lehigh. Pastor Richard Laird will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lehigh with a luncheon to follow at the church. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Everett Marion Underwood was born on October 13, 1932, in Alden, Iowa, the son of Russell and Marjorie (Dowd) Underwood. He grew up on a farm outside of Alden. In 1950, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Tacoma, Washington, where he met his first wife, Julia. They had two daughters, April and Alexis. Later in life, Everett married Lenora, and they had a daughter Tricia.

Everett had a passion for gardening, taking classes to reach Master Gardener status. He was an avid reader. Everett was always bursting with pride of his daughters and grandchildren.

Everett is survived by his wife, Lenora Underwood of the Stratford Nursing & Rehab Center; daughters, April (Mike) Faas of Stoughton, Wisconsin, Alexis (Clif) Underwood of Panama City, Florida, Tricia Trueblood of Gowrie, Iowa; step-son, Bruce (Paula) Oldson and step-daughter, Cindy (the late, Tom) Knutson all of Fort Dodge, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. Everett was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Julie; sisters, Joyce, Lela, and Eunice; a brother, Grant; and an infant granddaughter, Amanda.
