Foncie L. Murray

Foncie Murray, 86, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Saturday morning, February 16, 2019, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.

A celebration of life gathering will be held Thursday, February 21, 2019, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2019, at McGuire Bend United Brethren Church, rural Dayton. Burial will follow at the McGuire Bend Cemetery. Foncie Loyd Murray was born on January 24, 1933, in rural Graettinger, Iowa, the son of Glen and Hazel May (McClellan) Murray. Foncie moved with his family to Brushy Creek, East of Lehigh in 1934. He attended Cutting Grade School and Lehigh High School through much of the 11th grade.

On March 4, 1952, Foncie was united in marriage to Ida Lue Thomason in Augusta, Arkansas. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Betty, Daniel, David, and Glenda.

After marriage, Foncie and Ida Lue had lived in Fort Dodge and Sioux City before moving to their acreage northeast of Dayton in 1969. Foncie farmed until 1948, and then worked for Economy Forms out of Des Moines. He later worked briefly at Celotex and Fort Dodge Labs. Foncie was then employed by the Des Moines and Southern Railroad where he remained until 1963, retiring due to an injury sustained while working on a flat car.

Foncie belonged to McGuire Bend United Brethren Church and the Railroad Union.

Foncie was preceded in death by his parents, son, David Murray, wife, Ida Lue Murray on December 29, 2017, one sister, Rosetta “Rose” Tuel, and five brothers, Hubert “Pat”, Larry, Gene, Elmer, and William Murray.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty (David) Jones of Boone, Iowa, and Glenda (Chad) Hiddleson of Dawson, Iowa; son, Daniel (Bev) Murray of Grundy Center, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Patty Murray of Dayton, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren plus 2, due to arrive in July; two brothers, Walter Murray of Duncombe, Iowa, and Jerry (Nida) Murray of Lehigh, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
