Gene S. Anderson, 81, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, died Monday, August 3rd, 2009, at his home with his family comforting him.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside. Rev. Julian Swanson will officiate. Burial will be at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be Thursday, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton is in charge of the arrangements.

Gene Stanley Anderson was born on August 16, 1927, in Jefferson, Iowa, the son of Bror and Bertha (Johnson) Anderson. He attended country school in the Jefferson area until moving with his family to Burnside in 1943. Gene graduated with the Burnside High School class of 1945. On November 20, 1949, Gene was united in marriage to Shirlee E. Nellis at the Epworth United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. The couple lived in Des Moines while Shirlee attended Lutheran Nursing School. In 1950, Gene and Shirlee returned to the Burnside area where they farmed. In 1951, Gene founded Anderson Implement. Over the years he sold Winnebago motor homes, a variety of lines of tractors, as well as farm equipment and farm chemicals. The tractor lines included Minneapolis Moline, Cockshutt, David Brown, and Deutz. Gene retired in the mid 1990's, but remained active in the family business. Shirlee passed away on March 24, 1998.

Gene was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside. He was involved in 4-H and the Webster County Fair. He served for 12 years and was president of the Central Webster School Board, and belonged to the Farm Bureau Young Married Group. Gene and his wife Shirlee enjoyed traveling the world to Hawaii, Australia, Alaska, Central America and Europe. He enjoyed designing and building many projects ranging from buildings and Winnebago motor homes, to 4-H projects with his grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, Lonne (Karen) Anderson of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Randy (Jean) Anderson of Fort Dodge, Iowa,and Todd (Renee) Anderson of Lehigh, Iowa; one daughter, Lisa R. (Scott) Tapper of Webster City, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his special friend, Beth Hay of Fort Dodge, Iowa; one sister, Viola Holmer of Hale, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirlee Anderson; and brother-in-law, Carl Holmer.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
