George Thomas Butler

April 17, 1940 — December 23, 2018

George T. Butler, 78, of Traer, Iowa, and formerly of Union, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton, Iowa.

George Thomas Butler was born on April 17, 1940, in Union, Iowa, the son of Charley and Ina (Sizemore) Butler. He graduated with the Union - Whitten High School class of 1960.

On January 4, 1963, George was united in marriage to Bonnie Barr at the Congregational Church of Christ in Eldora. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, David and Mark.

George started his working career at Harris Furniture in Union while he was in high school. He later joined his father-in-law, Robert Barr in his tiling business, Barr Tiling. He went on to own and operate Butler Carpet Installation out of Union for many years. George later worked at Farm Service and Garst Elevator in Eldora.

George was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time at his nephew, Steven Butler’s, Lodge in Saskatchewan, Canada

Survivors include his son, Mark (Jody) Butler of Crystal, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Kaycee Butler, Hannah (John) Bull, and Michael Eldon; two great grandsons, John and Foster Bull; former wife and best friend, Bonnie Butler of Traer, Iowa; and numerous nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, David Butler, six brothers, Ora, Jim, Chuck Jr., John, Merle, and Harold Butler; and four sisters, Edith Matney, Mildred Leiser, Pat Sizemore, and Mary Butler.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
