Geraldine "Gerry" Peterson

Geraldine “Gerry” Peterson, 90, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

Private family funeral services will be held at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Pastor Lissa Kahl will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton has been entrusted with arrangements.

Geraldine Marietta Carlson was born on August 28, 1929, the daughter of Hollis and Mabel (Olson) Carlson. She attended country school in rural Dayton and graduated with the Dayton High School class of 1948.

On October 21, 1950, Geraldine was united in marriage to Charles Arthur Peterson at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Jeff and Colleen.

Chuck and Gerry established their home on a farm southeast of Dayton, where they lived and farmed since 1952. Gerry also worked part-time as a bookkeeper at the Dayton Cooperative Elevator. Charles passed away on March 16, 2016.

Gerry was a lifetime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in many Church activities. Gerry and Chuck were former members of the Dayton Golf & Country Club, loved to travel, and spent their winters in Arizona for 30+ years.

Survivors include her son, Jeff (Pat) Peterson of Dayton, Iowa; daughter, Colleen Peterson Grace (John Grace) of Iowa City, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, Katie (Ben) VanSickle, Jill (Steve) Bintz, Ruth Grace, and Evan Grace; 6 great-grandchildren, Maddie, Cale, and Molly VanSickle, Paige Holmes, and Parker and Paisley Bintz; and one sister, Clarice (Bob) Weaver of Harrison, Arkansas.

Her parents and husband, Charles Peterson, preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
