Ivan Theodore Skoglund

Ivan T. Skoglund, 100 of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Pastor Arhiana Shek will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Ivan Theodore Skoglund was born on May 1, 1913, in Dayton Township, Webster County, Iowa, the son of John and Augusta (Swanson) Skoglund. He graduated with the Dayton High School Class of 1930. Ivan was united in marriage to Edith M. Johnson on January 23, 1935. The couple lived their entire married lives in Dayton, where Ivan owned & operated the Dayton Oil Company from 1941 until 1977. Ivan also served on the Dayton Fire Department for 35 years, many as Fire Chief. He had served on the Dayton park commission and the Dayton city council. He was caretaker and course superintendent of the Dayton Golf & Country Club for nine years, and was a volunteer golf instructor for Dayton Schools.

Ivan was a lifetime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. He was a key figure in the reconstruction of the Dayton Golf & Country Club and was among those who helped to build the clubhouse, installed grass greens and updated the course. Ivan was an avid golfer, pool player, and an all around athlete. In his mid 90's, he did volunteer assistance at the Grandview Care Center "helping the old people".

Ivan is survived by his son, Gary and his wife, Suzanne Skoglund of Tavares, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Joan and her husband, Bruce Lambert of Dayton, Iowa; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edith in October of 1994; two sons, Charles Skoglund and James Skoglund; four brothers; and eight sisters.

Memorials may be directed to the Dayton Golf & Country Club.
