Jack E. Strandberg

Jack E. Strandberg, 84, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

A gathering of friends to celebrate Jack's life will be held Tuesday, from 4:00 until 6:30 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Following visitation, Jack's body will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Pastor Arhiana Shek will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dayton Cemetery. Jack Evert Strandberg was born December 29, 1928 at Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Evert & Helen (Brundien) Strandberg. Jack was proud of the fact that he was baptized, confirmed, and married at the Dayton Emanuel Lutheran Church, which was built by his grandfather William Brundien. He grew up in Dayton, attending the local school, graduating in the Class of 1947.

On September 18, 1954, he was united in marriage to MaryLou Okey at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dayton. They were blessed with one son, Timothy.

Professionally he was in the construction business with his father and later with his brother, Keith. They constructed all eight of the retirement apartments in Dayton, plus many houses in Dayton and the surrounding communities.

He served his church by being on the church council and singing in the choir for over fifty years. He served his community by being a Boy Scout leader and as an EMT for the local rescue squad for five years.

Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Some of his favorite times included spending time with his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife, MaryLou, of fifty eight years, his son, Tim and (Cheryl) Strandberg of Dayton; two grandchildren, Ben (Laurie) Strandberg of Dayton, Mariah (Rich) Duszynski of Story City; and two great grandchildren, Megan and Rhett Strandberg of Dayton; brother, Charles (Marilyn) Strandberg of Mason City, and sister-in-law, Beverly Strandberg of Dayton; three nephews, John, Jim & Corey Strandberg and two nieces, Pam Clancy and Nancy Opperman; and cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Evert & Helen Strandberg, and his brother, Keith Strandberg.
