James "Jim" Blair

James "Jim" Blair, 77, of Harcourt, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018, at the Humboldt Care Center North.



Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 26, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Pastor Craig Vote will officiate. Burial will be at Lost Grove Township Cemetery, near Harcourt. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Church. James Charles Blair was born on May 17, 1941, in Dayton, Iowa, the son of Verlin and Mildred (Schwering) Blair. He attended Dayton schools.



Jim was united in marriage to Sherry Rae Campbell on November 25, 1961, at Christ The King Catholic Church in Dayton.



Following his education Jim worked at Lehigh Sewer Pipe & Tile, then Iowa Beef in Fort Dodge for the next 18 years. Jim then went into partnership with his cousin, Larry Anderson, eventually purchasing the business in 1980 and renaming it Jim Blair Sanitation. He added recycling and roll-offs in 1991. He continued with the family business until his illness in March.



Jim was a member of the United Evangelical Covenant Church in Harcourt and served as a Deacon for many years. Jim loved his grandkids beyond measure and they were the light of his life. He never met a stranger and was always quick to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and belonged to the Christian Motorcyclist's Association. Jim was a cowboy at heart and in earlier years participated in the Dayton Rodeo.



Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Sherry Blair of Harcourt, Iowa; daughter, Stacey (Rick) West of Harcourt, Iowa; son, Tim (Staci) Blair of Harcourt, Iowa; six grandchildren, Sarah (Kirk) Kelley, Stefan (Codie) West, Rachel (Brenden) Kelley, Erica (Steven) Fiebiger, Nicole Blair, and Craig James Blair; five great-grandchildren, Kyah and Kaden Kelley, Jaxsen and Stella West, and Liam Fiebiger; one brother, Paul (Kathy) Blair; one sister, Phyllis Weiderin; and several nieces and nephews.



His parents, a sister in infancy, daughter, Kimberly Ann Dorman, grandson, Aaron Michael Dorman, son-in-law, Steven W. Dorman, two brothers, Kenneth Blair and Thomas Blair, one sister, Joan Brown, and a brother-in-law, Wilbur Weiderin as well as a nephew Brian Blair, and niece Sharon Towers, preceded him in death.



Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
