Jean Hewitt

Jean (Eden) Hewitt, 92, of Dayton, Iowa, and formerly of Bull Shoals, Arkansas, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018, at Stratford Specialty Care, Stratford, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Stratford. Pastor Andy Townsend will officiate. Burial will be at Linn Cemetery, rural Pilot Mound. Betty Jean Eden was born on November 10, 1925, in Croydon County, England, the daughter of Horace and Panzi (Mayle) Eden. She attended schools in the area of her birth and because of WWII was not able to finish her education.

Jean was a war bride, having met her future husband, Vincent V. Hewitt who was stationed in England while serving his country during WWII. Jean and Vincent were united in marriage on November 4, 1947, in Kansas. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Sandra, Alvin, and Vicky. The couple made their home in Kansas. In the mid 1990's, Jean moved to Bull Shoals, Arkansas, where she lived for several years until moving to Dayton in December of 2014.

Jean was known as a hard worker and worked as a caregiver both privately and in nursing homes. She was a great artist and enjoyed flowers, yard work, and writing poetry. Most of all she treasured time spent with friends, family, and her grandchildren.

She is survived by three children, Sandra (Gary) Peterson of Lehigh, Iowa, Alvin (Debbie) Hewitt of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Vicky Hendricks of Dayton, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Jerry (Kim) Robinson, Deana Stevens, Stephen (Kim) Hewitt, Dan (Maricela) Hewitt, Misti (Ryan) Ravenstien, Dustin (Hope) Hewitt, Adriell (Wade) Elwood, Coby (Deidra) Rosenberger, and Daren (Savannah) Rosenberger; twenty-three great-grandchildren plus one great-grandchild due to arrive in September; and six great great grandchildren.

Her parents, ex-husband, Vincent Hewitt, two brothers, Bill and Bernard Eden, and one sister, Peggy Slater, preceded her in death.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
