Joan Helen Lauer

Joan H. Lauer, 74, of Lehigh, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at Mercy One - Select Specialty Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020, at the Christian Church in Lehigh. Pastor Richard Laird will officiate. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh. Visitation will be Friday, February 28, 2020, from 5-7 p.m., at Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.

Joan Helen O’Hearn was born on December 1, 1945, in Lehigh, Iowa the daughter of Harold and Ethyl (Linn) O’Hearn. She attended school in Lehigh and Burnside. Joan graduated with Central Webster High School class of 1964.

On September 21, 1968 Joan was united in marriage to Robert Lauer at Immaculate Conception Church in Lehigh, Iowa. They were blessed with one son, Patrick.


Joan worked at Cargill and Mitchell Dental Lab in Fort Dodge. She also worked at Dickey Clay and Gerard’s DX in Lehigh. For many years, she worked at Lehigh Grocery. Joan also served as Deputy City Clerk and Assistant Librarian for the City of Lehigh.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Lauer of Lehigh, IA; her son, Patrick Lauer of Burnside, IA; sister, Sharon (Dave) O’Hearn-Hrubes of Lehigh, IA; sister-in-law, Beverly O’Hearn of Lehigh, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Paul O’Hearn, and Jack O’Hearn; one sister, Patricia “Patty” Dellachiesa; sister-in-law, Coral O’Hearn; and brothers-in-law, Dick Dellachiesa and Joe Potter.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
