LeRoy Edward Hurley was born to John Clyde and Elizabeth Elsie (Mohr) Hurley on January 19, 1919, in Grand Island, Nebraska.

LeRoy is survived by his wife Bethel, one daughter, Carlotte (Gary) Paulsen of Ogden, Iowa, and son Eddy (Kathy) Hurley of Donna, Texas. Grandpa "Bud" was admired and respected by his five grandchildren; Kelly (Bruce) Fischbach of Vermillion, South Dakota, Kevin (Jenni) Paulsen of Jefferson, Iowa, Kendal (Kim) Paulsen of Ogden, Iowa, Keith (Kristin) Hurley of Wahoo, Nebraska, and Betsy Jo Hurley of Temple, Texas. He is also survivied by two sisters, Sharlene Ault and Josephine Bates Hagadorn both of Grand Island, Nebraska, and nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Clyde and Robert Hurley, and sister, Betty Bailey.

LeRoy attended Grand Island Public Schools. At the age of 14, he began working for Sothman Lumber Company where he was a builder, craftsman, and millswright. He took pride in his woodworking and left Sothman Lumber when they closed. He then worked for 10 years for Grand Island Public Schools as a custodian.

Regardless where Bud was living, he was a true Cornhusker Fan. In his early years, he enjoyed playing roving shortstop in softball, playing handball at the College Gym with local firemen and policemen, and bowled for the Sothman Lumber Team. Bud was an avid gardener, especially taking pride in having the first tomato of the season, along with growing beautiful roses. He built their home at 1813 N Huston where he and Bethel resided for 55 years. He also enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts, and coaching Little League Baseball. His family has many treasures that he crafted.
