Nancy Jean Savits, 68, of Urbandale, passed away Friday, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa, following a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Gary Hoyt will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. Visitation will be Monday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.

Nancy Jean Savits, daughter of Loren D. and Mabel E. Porter Christensen, was born May 11, 1943 in Ogden, Iowa and died December 9, 2011 at the Hospice Unit of the Eastern Star Home in Boone, Iowa at the age of 68 years, 6 months, and 28 days after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Nancy was educated in the Ogden Community School District and graduated in 1961. Following graduation, she moved to Des Moines and worked at Banker's Life as a secretary. She later moved to Ames and worked as the secretary to the Head of the Architectural Department at Iowa State University. Nancy worked as a secretary at various other places, including Area 11 College (DMACC), Ciba-Geigy (now Syngenta), and finally at Wells Fargo from which she retired in 1998. After her retirement, Nancy greatly enjoyed her job at the Meredith Test Kitchen. On June 27, 1970, Nancy was united in marriage with Brian Thomas Savits at St. John's Catholic Church in Ogden, Iowa. She and Brian lived all of their married life in Des Moines. They greatly enjoyed traveling, especially to Branson, Missouri; the Oregon Coastline; Door County, Wisconsin; Estes Park, Colorado; Arizona, and California where they greatly enjoyed visited their nieces Tanya and Jennifer.

Nancy was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Her hobbies included baking, gardening, reading, shopping, cross-stitching, crafts, ceramics, scrapbooking, and snowmobiling. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She and Brian were each other's best friends and were a true inspiration of love to their family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law Paul Savits, her very special cousin Rosemary (Earl) Eden, and aunts and uncles Richard & June Porter and Jess & Elsie Varner.

Nancy is survived by her husband Brian of Urbandale; her sister Rozanne Fosenburg and her husband John of Des Moines, and her brother Garen Christensen and his companion Sandy Wisecup of Boone. She is also survived by her mother-in-law Margaret Savits of Ogden; Brian's siblings: Dennis Savits, Jon (Dee) Savits, and Greg (Kathy) Savits all of Ogden, and Mary Sauser of Cedar Rapids; her nieces and nephews: Tanya Christensen of Chino, CA, Jennifer Christensen of San Diego, CA, Mike (Lisa) Savits of Ogden, Melissa Savits of West Des Moines, Jenifer (Brent) Badger of Bagley, Jessica Savits of Jefferson, Angela (Keaton) Krueger of Madrid, Nathan (Denise) Sauser of Pheonix, AZ, Katie (Jeff) Leavy of Gilbert, AZ, Stacie (Derek) York of Grimes, Paul (Jennie) Savits of Ogden, and Emily Savits and Justin Savits, both of Rippey, as well as great-nieces and nephews: Alexis Christensen; Leah and Logan Savits; Kami, Abby, Brock & Elise Badger, Connor and Jacob Leavy, and Jared, Hailey and Sadie York. Nancy is also survived by her cousin Judy (Lee) Foss and their son Christopher Foss of Portland, Oregon, as well as many friends.
