Richard Lee “Dick” Nemechek, 85, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge surrounded by his loving family.

Dick’s wishes were to be cremated. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at McGuire Bend Cemetery, rural Dayton. Military Rites will be conducted by the Peterson American Legion Post #323. Fellowship will follow at the Dayton Community Center. Richard Lee Nemechek was born on June 4, 1936, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Edward and Faye (Franklin) Nemechek. He grew up in rural Stratford, joining the Navy on December 4, 1953. He served on the USS Randolph in the Mediterranean Sea, honorably discharging on May 29, 1957.

Dick was united in marriage to Barbara Rollins on June 4, 1955, in Stratford, Iowa, and shared their lives for 53 years.

He was a skilled and dedicated Union Sheet Metal Journeyman and took pride in the fact that his three sons chose to follow his career path.

Dick is survived by his children, Tim (Dawn) Nemechek of Byron, Minnesota, Terri (Brian) Hagge of Dayton, Iowa, Dan Nemechek (Lorelei) of Farnhamville, Iowa, Dave (Pam) Nemechek of Otho, Iowa, Holly Zander of Dayton, Iowa, and Darla Nemechek of Boone, Iowa. He is also survived by his sister, Arlene (Emery) Culberson of Stratford, Iowa; brother-in-law, Jerry Ferguson of Stratford, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and his much-loved companion, Ardys Yates.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, parents, infant sister Elaine, sisters, Alice Spitler and Becky Ferguson, brothers, Lyle Nemechek and Dale Nemechek, and grandsons, Ryan Nemechek and Paul Hagge.
