Robert "Bob" Wirtz

Robert "Bob" Wirtz, 88, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Bob's wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Sunday, April 24, 2016, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the McGraw Senior Citizen's Center- 241 West Walnut Street in Ogden. For online obituaries and condolences please visit: www.carsonstappfuneralhome.com

Robert Eugene Wirtz was born on December 26, 1927, in Ogden, Iowa, the son of Samuel and Ethel (Jones) Wirtz. He attended Ogden schools, including the Battin Country School. He spent 3 years in the 34th Division of the National Guard.

Bob was married to Rose Berglund in 1951 until her passing in 1991. He spent 22 years with Eleanore Redmond who passed away in 2013.

Bob worked for John Deere Des Moines Works for 5 years until he began farming full time, retiring in 1991. He moved into Ogden in 1994.

Bob was an avid collector first and foremost of Lionel trains but also enjoyed antique cars and tractors, airplanes, and flying. These hobbies were enjoyed for years with his oldest son, brother, and many friends. Bob had also been a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner.

Bob is survived by daughter Janice (Tim) McCoy of Perry and son Jeff (Tammy) Wirtz of Ogden; grandchildren Derek (Kerry) Wirtz, their daughters Kamrynn and Kaylen of Boone. Dani (Josh) Sanders, their children Brianna, Caleb, Katy, Nicholas, Noah, and Damien of Ogden. Jake McCoy of Des Moines and Shannon and Samantha Wirtz of Ogden.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Everett Wirtz and Marjorie Lebo, wife Rose, sons Dennis and Dwight, and partner Eleanore.

In leiu of flowers Bob suggested donations to the Boone Area Humane Society or a favorite charity.
