Roger Zunkel

Roger A. Zunkel, 77, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at the Boone County Hospital.

Roger's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 28, 2015, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Gary Hoyt will officiate. Roger Alden Zunkel was born on February 22, 1938, in Ogden, Iowa, the son of Orville and Marian (Whitney) Zunkel. He was a graduate of the Ogden High School.

On January 23, 1971, Roger was united in marriage to Jo Van Pelt at the Methodist Church in Ogden. The couple lived and farmed northeast of Ogden for many years, retiring in 2004.

Roger belonged to the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, enjoyed fishing and visiting with friends over coffee at the McGraw Sr. Center.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Zunkel of Ogden, Iowa; two sons, Steve (Denise) Van Pelt of Ogden, Iowa, David (Kris) Van Pelt of Ogden, Iowa; one daughter, Lynn (Nick) Bellizzi of Omaha, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren, Amy, Nicole, Jamie, and Aaron Van Pelt, Mandy (Matt) Weinert, Dan, and Joey Bellizzi; 3 great-grandchildren, Ayden Downing, Brinley Weinert, and Emilia Weinert; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Arlen Zunkel in 2014.

Memorials may be left to the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden.
