Russell Christensen

March 19, 1917 — December 6, 2009

Russell Christensen, 92, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Sunday morning, December 6, 2009, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2009, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Paul Evans will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. Visitation will also be Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services at the Church. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden is in charge of the arrangements.

Russell Christensen was born on March 19, 1917, on the family farm west of Ogden, Iowa, the son of Frank and Alta (Winkelpleck) Christensen. Russell graduated with the Ogden High School class of 1937. He was united in marriage to Vivian Riddle on January 26, 1942. After serving in the Army Medical Corps, he worked at Pioneer Hatchery in Boone before joining his father on the farm west of Ogden. Upon retirement Russell and Vivian enjoyed traveling and wintered in Mesa, Arizona, for many years

Russell was active in Farm Bureau holding several county offices. He was a lifelong member and attendee of the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Russell enjoyed his sons' school activities, time with his grandchildren, and most recently his six great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Vivian Christensen of Ogden, Iowa; two sons, Tom (Carol) Christensen of Johnston, Iowa, and Terry (Janice) Christensen of Ankeny, Iowa; two grandchildren, Tracie (Steve) VandenBerg, and Dr. David (Lindy) Christensen; six great grandchildren, Joshua, Brian, and Seth VandenBerg, and Shelby, Brady, and Kale Christensen; and one brother, Warren (Ruth) Christensen of Ogden, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.
