Wayne R. Newholm

Wayne R. Newholm, 86, of Dayton, Iowa, died Thursday, August 13, 2009, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 17, 2009, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Ministry Intern J.T. Burk will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson -Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.

Wayne Roger Newholm was born on November 7, 1922, in Dayton, Iowa, the son of Emil and Myrtle (Skoglund) Newholm. He was baptized and confirmed at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. He attended school in Lanyon.

Wayne was united in marriage to Phyllis Marie Wilson on July 20, 1946, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Their union was blessed with three children: Craig, Terry, and Angie. Wayne and Phyllis lived and farmed in Webster County in the Lehigh and Dayton area. Following Wayne's retirement in 1994, the couple moved into Dayton. Phyllis passed away on February 9, 2002.

Wayne was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton where he served as a Deacon and as a member of the Church Council. He also served on the Palm Grove Elevator Board, belonged to the Dayton Lion's Club, Dayton Wrangler's, and was Grand Marshall of the Dayton Rodeo in 2002.

Survivors include two sons, Craig (Lois) Newholm of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Terry (Debra) Newholm of Lehigh, Iowa; one daughter, Angie Newholm (Shad Thomason) of Dayton, Iowa; three grandchildren, Kelly Newholm, Tony Newholm, and Cayle Campbell; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Reuben (Dorie) Newholm of Wisconsin and Don (Celia) Newholm of Colorado; two sisters, Ione (Wilbert) Duft of Colorado, and Rose (George) Fast of California; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis Newholm; granddaughter, Carrie Todd; one brother, Carl Newholm; and one sister, Ella Jean Radcliff.

Memorials may be left to Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton.
