Wilbur Cummins

Wilbur Cummins, 83, of Lehigh, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Pastor Craig Vote will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Following the funeral Wilbur's body will be cremated. Burial will be at a later date.

Wilbur Dean Cummins was born on August 13, 1928, in Dallas County, Iowa, the son of Ivyl and Goldie (Jones) Cummins. He was educated in the area of his birth. At the age of 17 Wilbur enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during WWII. He was united in marriage to Mary Ethel Edwards in 1948. She later passed away. Wilbur has spent the last 46 years with the love of his life, Connie Slawson. Wilbur lived in the Lehigh area since 1941, and was employed by Hormel's in Fort Dodge for 38 years, retiring in 1982.

Wilbur was an avid outdoorsman and loved running his dogs, fishing, and fox hunting. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the greatest pleasure in his life.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Virginia Post; one brother, Lovell Cummins; a son, Kevin Slawson; one grandson, Joey Cummins; one great grandson, Kyle High-Cummins; nephew, Lenny Cummins.

Among the survivors are his wife, Connie Slawson of Lehigh, Iowa; children, Roy (Deb) Cummins of Vincent, Iowa, Donald Cummins of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Harold (Ginger) Cummins of Otho, Iowa, Brian (Becky) Slawson of Gowrie, Iowa, Mike Slawson of Lehigh, Iowa, Gloria Gochee of Dayton, and Randy Slawson of Fort Dodge, Iowa; many grandchildren, and great grandchildren; one brother, Harold (Betty) Cummins of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; one sister, Vicki (Tiny) Rockafellow of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
