Betty Manguson, 83, of Dayton, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 14, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Rev. Keith Putney will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.
Elizabeth Annette Reed was born on October 18, 1927, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Edna (Nordstrum) Reed. She graduated with the Fort Dodge High School class of 1946, and went on to receive her nurses training at the Michael Reese School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois. Betty was united in marriage to Charles R. Manguson on February 17, 1951, at the Congregational Church in Fort Dodge. To this union three children were born: Roberta, Charlene, and Gail. Betty and Charles farmed southwest of Dayton for many years. Betty also worked as a Registered Nurse at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge, the Gowrie Care Center, and later for her brother, Dr. James Reed in Fort Dodge until retiring in the mid 1990's. In 1986, the couple moved into Dayton.

Betty was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Dayton, having joined in 1951. She was active in many church activities and served three terms as president of the U.M.W. She also served as a 4-H Leader, on the 4-H Board, and was a two time past president of the Fort Dodge Area Quilters, to which she belonged for over 25 years.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Manguson of Dayton, Iowa; three daughters, Roberta (John) Nigro of Des Moines, Iowa; Charlene (Pat) Kelley of Otho, Iowa, and Gail (Dave) Lundquist of Dayton, Iowa; five grandchildren, Charles (Carla), Kyndra, and Matt Lundquist, and Emma and Ada Kelley; a great granddaughter, Addison Lundquist; four step grandchildren, John Nigro Jr., Donald (Clarissa) Nigro, Pete (Teresa) Nigro, and Michelle (Matt) Carson; eight step great grandchildren, John Nigro III, Carmine Nigro, Taylor, Ariana, and Anthony Nigro, and Nina, Dominic, and Talia Carson; three brothers, Wendell (Joan) Reed of Crystal River, Florida, Dr. James Reed (Ruth) of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Patrick (Judy) Reed of Brushy Creek, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Her parents, and two brothers, Roland and Carl Reed, preceded her in death.
