Clifton Gilbert Dodd

Clifton G. Dodd, 91, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Stratford Specialty Care in Stratford, Iowa.

Funeral services for Cliff will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton, Iowa with Earl Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at the Dayton Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the Peterson American Legion Post #323 of Dayton. Visitation for Cliff will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.

Clifton Gilbert Dodd, son of William and Vivian (Dake) Dodd was born on June 28, 1929 in Boone, Iowa. He received his education in Boone where he graduated from Boone High School. Following his education, Clifton honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.

On June 14, 1958, Clifton married Nancy Lee in Boone, Iowa. The couple lived most of their life in the Dayton and Boone area, with exception of 6-7 years in Moingona. He worked for over 45 years at Chicago Northwest and Union Pacific Railroads as a Railroad Engineer until retiring in 1992.

Clifton was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and writing stories that have been published in outdoor magazines. He was a member of Hidden Acres and also learned taxidermy in which he has a trophy room with 35 mountings. Cliff provided vegetables and wild fruits for sale at the Farmers Market for over 10 years.

In addition to his parents, Clifton was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy; his daughter, Susan Strain; two sisters, Phyllis Clopton and June Miller; and one brother, Douglas Dodd.

Cliff is survived by his four daughters: Valerie Carlson, Sandra Gustafson, Julie Kinyon, and Linda Cleary. He was the proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Grundon; two brothers, Donald Dodd and Kenneth Dodd.
