Delores “Dee” Newkirk, of Lehigh, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2021, at Karen Acres Healthcare Center in Urbandale, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 01, 2021, at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Pastor Kay Christie will officiate. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh. Visitation will be held immediately before the service on Friday, October 01, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Delores J. Newkirk was born January 13, 1934, in Guthrie County, Iowa the daughter of George and Elsie (Miller) Bacon. Dee attended local schooling in Webster County, Iowa until the age of 16 when she married Thomas R. Newkirk on October 2, 1950, at the Jackson County Courthouse in Jackson, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter, Deborah.
In earlier years, Dee worked as a homemaker and in various positions within the hospitality industry, which included her being an owner of Tom & Dee’s Café in Lehigh, Iowa. After retirement, Dee continued to support her family by assisting Tom with the management of Thomas Management apartments within Lehigh and Burnside, Iowa until 2017. After the death of her beloved husband, Tom, she moved to Ankeny and the Des Moines metro area to be closer to her granddaughter Jessica until her death.
Delores enjoyed country music (especially Johnny Cash), sharing trips with her husband and family, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, helping others, reading, and writing in her journals. Dee was a hardworking woman who was devoted to and loved her family and friends. She will be missed dearly.
Survivors include one daughter, Deb Jacobsen of Huntsville, Texas; two granddaughters, Jessica (Gregory) Boor of Ankeny, Iowa, and Katie Jo Jacobsen of Baytown, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Jacobsen, Piper Boor, and Lear Boor; one brother, Art (Anna) Bacon; one sister Karen (Joe) Hill; three sisters-in-laws, Georgia Bacon, Sharon Bacon, and Sheri Bacon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Darryl (Helen) Bacon of Duncombe, Iowa, Ed Bacon of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Lloyd “Butch” Bacon of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jerry Bacon of Humboldt, Iowa; two sisters, Dolly (Ike) Hayes of Otho, Iowa and Betty (Robert) Meinking of Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
