Doris M. Hambleton, 88, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton. Rev. Michael Standfest & Rev. Aaron Hambleton will officiate. Inurnment will follow at the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the services on Monday, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the Church. Doris Mary Hoyer was born on November 6, 1934, south of Burnside, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Maye (Johnson) Hoyer.
She was baptized on December 26, 1934, at Trinity Lutheran Church, then in Burnside, and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton. Doris graduated with the Dayton High School class of 1952, and went on to earn her Associates Degree in Nursing at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.
On April 3, 1955, Doris was united in marriage to John Howard Hambleton at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton. The couple fostered 25 babies. Doris was employed as a registered nurse at the Boone County Hospital for 15 years where she was a compassionate and caring nurse. In retirement, Doris worked with her husband as tour escort for Northwest Iowa Tours. She lived in the Dayton area her entire life.
Doris was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton and served as the church organist for 70 years. Doris and John enjoyed traveling and wintered in Weslaco, Texas for 19 years. Doris was a very devoted and patient, wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert “Bob” Hoyer, one son, Mark Hambleton, and one great-granddaughter, Anastasia Hope Hambleton.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, John Hambleton of Dayton, IA; daughter-in-law, Jane Hambleton (Mark’s wife) of Fort Dodge, IA; three sons, Monte (Kathy) Hambleton of Fulshear, TX, Mitch (Ruth) Hambleton of Dallas Center, IA, and Blake (Melissa) Hambleton of Richmond, TX; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-grandson due to arrive in August; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
