Dorothy Johnson, 89, of Beaver, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 26, 2017, at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Dr. Bill Bowers will officiate. Burial will be in the Beaver Cemetery. Dorothy Lola Root was born on April 27, 1927, in rural Calhoun County, Iowa, the daughter of Cecil and Alma (Strandberg) Root.

She graduated with the Somers High School class of 1944, and later worked on the family farm with her father.

On August 2, 1947, Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Johnson. To this union three children were born: Nancy, Shirley and Dianne.

Dorothy and Bob had lived and farmed in Calhoun County, and North of Bouton, before establishing their home on a farm South of Beaver in the 1950's. The couple retired from farming in 2001.

Dorothy enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds, and watching the birds that would come to her feeders. She also loved square dancing, watching area slow pitch softball games, and most of all following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sports and activities.

She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Tichenor of Virginia, and Shirley (Dave) Rooker of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Wendy (Gary) Swanson, Stacy Tichenor, Shannon Romack, Trevor (Becky) Rooker, and Brad (Jenny Pazderka)Rooker; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in 2014, daughter Dianne Hennick in 2003.
