Freda Peters, 88, of Dayton, Iowa, died Friday, April 1, 2011, at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.
Freda's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Rev. Keith Putney will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 5, 2011, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Dayton United Methodist Church. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton is in charge of the arrangements.
Freda Mae Dobson was born on October 3, 1922, in Jefferson, Iowa, the daughter of Franklin and Madge (Cromwell) Dobson. She graduated with the Jefferson High School class of 1938. Freda went on to be certified and taught in a rural country school in Greene County. On August 4, 1944, Freda was united in marriage to Harry J. Peters at the Christian Church in Jefferson. The couple lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, for one year prior to moving to Jefferson in the late 1940's, and later established their home in Dayton. Freda and Harry owned and operated Peters Plumbing & Heating in Dayton for over 40 years. Freda enjoyed doing the bookkeeping for the business.
Freda was a 50+ year member of the United Methodist Church in Dayton where she was always a willing worker at various church gatherings, providing many pies and dishes of food, including her much requested mint brownies. Her grandchildren were always able to find several kinds of their favorite homemade cookies in her refrigerator and freezer. Freda enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge. She also enjoyed sewing and needlework, and made many treasured keepsakes for her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Jill (Larry) Edwards of Lime Springs, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Judy Peters of Webster City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Brock (Julie) Edwards, Emma Edwards, Jennifer (Christopher) Groos, and Ann (Brandon) Garvey; six great-grandchildren, Mason and Gavin Edwards, Hannah and Henry Groos, and Ava and Lillian Garvey; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Dobson of California, Ethel Twombley of Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents; husband, Harry J. Peters in 2007; son, Frank Peters in 2002; one sister, Darlene Nelson; and two brothers, Dale Dobson and Merle Dobson, preceded her in death.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
