Gerald R. Anderson, 90, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, at Westhaven Community in Boone, Iowa.
Funeral services for Gerald will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Community United Methodist Church in Ogden with Rev. Heidi Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Community United Methodist Church. Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden has been entrusted with arrangements.
Gerald Russell Anderson, son of Lou and Isabell (Mylenbusch) Anderson was born on October 1, 1934, at home on a farm near Beaver, Iowa. He grew up on the farm and attended country school in Beaver and Grand Junction. He graduated from Ogden High School with the class of 1953. Following high school, Gerald honorably served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1953 to 1961.
On October 4, 1953, Gerald was united in marriage to Janice Hillman at the Grand Junction Methodist Church. The couple resided in Boone before making their home in Ogden. Gerald worked on the farm until he began working at Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Boone. In 1955, Gerald went to work as a lineman for Ogden Telephone Company. He also worked part time for several years at Claussen’s Texaco in Ogden. He became the Ogden Telephone Company manager in 1967, and continued as manager until his retirement in 1999.
Gerald was a member of Community United Methodist Church where he was involved on various church committees. He also served on the Ogden City Council for several terms, Iowa Telephone Pioneers for many years, and was a member of the Ogden Lion’s Club for over 58 years. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and he never missed his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was also preceded in death by his wife, Janice Anderson: brothers, Lester and Donald (Bev) Anderson; sisters, Belva (Ed) Riegel, and Darlene (George) Battani; brother-in-law, Jerry (Wilma) Hillman; and an infant great granddaughter.
Survivors include his son, Tim (Vickie) Anderson of Ogden; three daughters, Shelly (Dan) Schall of Ogden, Heidi (Chris) Schell of Nevada, and Robin (Bob) Fisher of Oronogo, MO; grandchildren, Amanda (Jeremy) Nye, Tonya (Chad) Curry, Megan (Tim) Duncan, Bridgett (Camron) Tolley, Toni Leigh, Kari (Paul) Campbell, Greg (Christina) Schell, and Karla (Jason) Smith; great grandchildren, Sawyer, Case, Anderson, Blaire, Mason, Ashlynn, CJ, Ryker, Addilyn, and Emilia; sisters-in-law, Norma Anderson and Leita (Jerry) Barrick; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
