Harry Marcus Sechrest

Harry M. Sechrest, 72, of Ogden, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at his home in Ogden.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ogden, Iowa. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Ogden with Graveside Military Rites conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.

Harry Marcus Sechrest, son of Clell and Kathhleen (Sullivant) Sechrest was born on August 3, 1948 in El Dorado, Arkansas. As a child, Harry moved to Lake Jackson, Texas where he joined the Boy Scouts and later became an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Brazosport High School in 1966. Harry then attended Sam Houston College in Huntsville, Texas for 1 ½ years before joining the United States Air Force where he served two tours in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, Harry worked for Dow Chemical Company. He began his career at Dow as a Chemical Operator and later became a Pipe Fitter Journeyman. Harry retired from Dow as a Planner and Scheduler. As education was very important to him, he earned his A.A. Degree from Brazosport College in 1988.

On May 19, 1973, Harry married Elizabeth Jo Lawler in Austin, Texas. The couple continued to reside in Texas until they decided to move to Ogden to be closer to family.

Harry was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Ogden. His hobbies included a lifelong love of playing guitars in bands, riding motorcycles, camping, photography and developing pictures in a darkroom, and his love of all his cats and dogs.

In addition to his parents, Harry was also preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Roebuck; and his niece, Carla Roebuck.

Harry is survived by his loving wife, Betty Sechrest of Ogden, IA; two sons, Danny Sechrest of Albia, IA, and Ben Sechrest of Ogden, IA; one daughter, Linh Nguyen and three granddaughters, Kylie, Kiara, and Faith, all of California; brother-in-law, Barry Roebuck; two nieces, Aimee Pearson and Robyn Streight; uncle, Jerry Sechrest; aunts, Erma Frala and Donna Sandy and his step mother, Mary Bates Sechrest.
