Irene E. Pentico, 94, of Ogden, Iowa, died Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the Ogden Manor.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Rev. Gordon Lundberg will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.
Irene Elnora Sampson was born on March 25, 1917, in Ogden, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Izora (Gambill) Sampson. She attended country schools in Boone County. Irene was united in marriage to Wilfred "Penny" Pentico on December 24, 1935, at the Augustana Lutheran Church parsonage in Boone. The couple made their home in Ogden. Wilfred passed away on February 27, 1995. Irene became a resident of the Ogden Manor in October of 2006.
Irene belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden where she enjoyed quilting and coffee with friends. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. Irene and Penny enjoyed dancing together in their later years.
Survivors include two sons, Ron (Nikki) Pentico of Newhall, Iowa, Doug (Mary) Pentico of Boone, Iowa; five grandchildren, Stacey (Lori) Pentico, Stephanie Hofmaster, Mike Pentico, Chad Pentico (partner, Jeff), and Josh Tracy; six great-grandchildren, Jonathan Hofmaster, Michaela Hofmaster, Katelyn Hofmaster, Skyler Pentico, Allie Pentico, and Maddie Pentico; two nieces, Jane Splinter and Susan Dressler; and a sister-in-law, Verval Sampson, of Platteville, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilfred Pentico; a brother, DeWayne Sampson; a sister, Zelpha "Pat" McClelland; and one nephew, Terry Sampson.
Memorials may be directed to either Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden or the Alzheimers Association.
