James Fredrick Scheuerman

James F. Scheuerman, 86, of Boxholm, Iowa, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 7, 2026.

A Celebration of Life gathering for Jim will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Lawn Cemetery in Boxholm. Rev. Rod Meyer will officiate.

James Fredrick Scheuerman was born on July 9, 1940, at home in rural Grand Junction, Iowa, the son of Walter and Irene (Bray) Scheuerman. He graduated with the Grand Junction Consolidated High School class of 1958. Jim served in the Iowa Army National Guard for several years.

Jim was united in marriage to Sandra Murphy. To this union, four sons were born: Jeffrey Scott, Curtis Lee, Douglas Jon, and James Brett. Jim was united in marriage to Janice Hulsebus in 1976 in Des Moines, Iowa, who passed away on January 5, 2008. During their time together, Jim was employed by Underground Constructors out of Dodge Center, Minnesota, installing gas pipelines. Later, he worked as a hog buyer for Wilson Foods, and FDL Foods of Dubuque, Iowa. He served the City of Boxholm dutifully for 12 years as the Mayor.

Jim spent his retirement years enjoying his hobbies with his family. He and Jan took yearly fishing trips with Jack and Rhonda Hulsebus. During the week, he could be found puttering around his garden and keeping his lawn immaculate. His free time was dedicated to his biggest passion, Modified Dirt Racing. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time at the track and involved his family in this endeavor. His wife painted the car, his son Charlie and grandson Brett was part of the team and he brought the grandkids to watch the races whenever he could.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jan Scheuerman, two sons, Jeffrey Scott Scheuerman and Curtis Lee Scheuerman, and one granddaughter, Krista Scheuerman.Hambleton

Survivors include his two sons, Douglas Jon Scheuerman of Moline, IL, and James Brett “Charlie” Scheuerman of Boxholm, IA; daughter, Michelle (Jason) Zander of Urbandale, IA; five grandchildren, Megan Woodward, Brett Scheuerman, Brittney Anderson, and Hannah Baker; several great grandchildren; siblings, Dennis (Marjorie) Scheuerman of Jefferson, IA, and Judy (Ronald) Johnson of Leavenworth, KS; as well as nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
