Jeanne A. Lawler, 93, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ogden. Father Timothy Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Ogden. Visitation will be prior to services, starting at 9:00 a.m., at the Church on Thursday. Jeanne Ann Hanson was born on February 4, 1928, in Vermillion, South Dakota, the daughter of Peter and Delvina (Bechard) Hanson. She was a graduate of the Vermillion, South Dakota High School.
On January 23, 1950, Jeanne was united in marriage to James Lawler in Vermillion, South Dakota. The couple farmed in the Ogden area until moving to Vermillion in 1961. Jeanne worked at J.C. Penney’s as a bookkeeper for 22 years until retiring. In 1989, Jeanne and Jim moved to Sturgis, South Dakota. Jim passed away on September 3, 2007. In September of 2018, Jeanne moved to Swan Place in Carroll, Iowa, where she resided until her death.
Jeanne was a former member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis, South Dakota. In retirement, Jeanne spent her free time volunteering at the Sr. Citizen’s Center, quilting, and Norwegian stitchery. Jeanne and Jim also enjoyed camping in their earlier years.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann (John) Sweeney of Carroll, Iowa; three sons, Michael (Kathy) Lawler of Elk Point, South Dakota, Peter Lawler of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Mark (Scarlet) Lawler of Rapid City, South, Dakota; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Joann Gosnell of Las Vegas, Nevada; one brother, James Hanson of the Veterans Home in Lisbon, North Dakota.
Her parents, husband, Jim Lawler, daughter, Kristie Lawler, son, Bruce Lawler, and one brother, Jerry Hanson, preceded her in death.
