Kent Larry Jones, son of Carroll and Gloria Jones was born on May 19, 1952, in Boone, Iowa. He graduated from Ogden High School with the class of 1970. Following high school, Kent served in the Iowa Army National Guard for six years. He was employed for 40 years at Northern Natural Gas and Youngren Excavating.
Kent enjoyed working on and around the farm, especially with cattle. In his younger years he helped out his Dad a lot and more recently assisted Chris with everything involving farming and livestock. Over the years, Kent had every species of farm animal at one time or another, especially raising a lot of pigs, “The Old Fashioned Way”. He also worked with Harold and Randy Eich auctioneering household and farm sales for over 10 years. One of Kent’s favorite past times that he always looked forward to was attending Saturday Sales at the Perry Sale Barn. He also liked gardening and always had a big garden. Kent did a lot of canning. He liked sharing his veggies and canned goods with family and friends.
One of Kent’s proudest and happiest moments in his life and also his grandson CeJay, was on October 18, 2024, when CeJay broke Grandpa’s passing (Per Game) yards record in football. Kent had held the record for 54 years at 394 Yards until CeJay broke it very convincingly at 445 yards. Kent was so very proud of and happy for CeJay on this accomplishment. Kent also like to cheer for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Pittsburg Steelers. However, the number one team of all was always the Ogden Bulldogs! But most of all, Kent loved watching his children and grandchildren as they played and participated in sports and other activities as Bulldogs! Kent cherished the last couple of years with time he spent with his grandson Dawson showing him how to garden and can and his granddaughter Dakota, teaching her to mow his yard in Grandpa’s particular way.
In addition to his parents, Kent was also preceded in death by his son, Cory Jones; niece, Shelly Sward, and nephew, E.A. Rector.
Survivors include his daughter, Gina (Scott) Church of Ogden; son, Chris (Lanna) Jones also of Ogden; grandchildren, Preston, Carter, and Reagan Church, and CeJay, Dakota, and Dawson Jones; two sisters, Jana Rector of Cumming, IA, and Jodi (Alan) Sward of Ogden, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
