Marjorie Petty

Marjorie "Marj" Petty, 83, of Pilot Mound, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016, at Hearthstone Memory Care Unit in Boone.

Marjorie Darline Briggs was born on March 16, 1933, near Grimes, Iowa, to Everett and Florence (Bohrofen) Briggs.

After high school she worked in a bank in Minburn and married Robert "Bob" Petty on November 18, 1951. She and Bob farmed in the Boxholm area. Marj worked tirelessly alongside her husband doing farm chores, walking beans and she especially enjoyed sowing oats. She loved her dog Abby and her pet goat.

Marj was a quiet woman who had an infectious smile and she wrote short notes of encouragement when needed to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and kept a journal most of her life. She enjoyed being outside, walking, sewing blue jean quilts and always being busy. Growing African violets was her passion for many years. Vacations were a big part of her life as she and her family traveled every summer throughout the United States and Canada.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Bob, and her children, Renee (Gary) Carhill, Sheri Michaels (George Francis), Daryl (Rosalie) Petty and Diane (Mike) Petts; and son-in-law Merlin Bueltel. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Bueltel; sister, Sheryl (Briggs) York; and parents, Florence and Everett Briggs.

Marj's wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life was held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2016, at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Pastor Michael Petts officiated.
