Norman Duane Vegors

Norman D. Vegors, 78, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life Gathering for Norman will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Vegors Cemetery in rural Stratford. Pastor Kay Christie will officiate.

Norman Duane Vegors, son of Duane and Erma (Dybdal) Vegors was born on April 3, 1947, in in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Norman’s main vocation was in water and wastewater management. Over the years, Norman continued his education and training and achieved a Grade IV Certification in water and wastewater management. He was also involved in writing the training manuals for future students interested in the water and wastewater profession.

On July 24, 1987, Norman was united in marriage to Debra Collen. The couple resided in Dayton. Although Norman lived in many different cities and towns in Iowa he always considered Dayton home.

Norman loved rodeo. He was born into the Dayton rodeo history as his father was one of the 3 boys who started it. In his younger years he competed in saddle bronc and bull riding and braided many bull ropes for his competitors. He also enjoyed calf roping and steer wrestling. Camping and trail riding took over in his later years and nothing made him happier than being able to take his grandchildren camping, riding and relaxing around a campfire. As his health deteriorated, he took up leather work. Repairing and making leather items kept him busy. The cowboy channel was always on his 75" TV. He loved watching rodeo and you could see him riding along with the younger cowboys.

In addition to his parents, Norman was also preceded in death by his sister, Marcia Williams.

Survivors include his loving wife, Debra Vegors of Dayton, IA; his two daughters, Tami (Brian Wright) Gorvin of Cedar Rapids, IA; Jodi Geels of Tiffin, IA; his two sons, William (Jennifer) Vegors of Green River, WY; and Cody Vegors of Dayton, IA; 10 grandchildren, Samantha, Jacob, Jack, Kloie, Gabriel, Jaiden, Ashlee, Oliver, Harper, and Ellis; and two great-granddaughters, Penelope and Scarlett.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Norman.
