Ronald Dean Youngren, 93 of Ogden, Iowa passed away on April 5, 2022 in Ames at the Isreal Family Hospice House.
Dean was born on July 4, 1928, to the parents of Julius and Iva (Zunkel) Youngren. He grew up with his brother and three sisters on his parents’ Boone County farm, attended Quincy Country School and graduated from Ogden High School in 1947.
After graduation, he worked for Ames Reliable Feed Company until 1951 and also served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1948 until his honorable discharge in 1958.
On June 10, 1950, he married Vera Stumpenhorst and began farming North of Boone while also working for Firestone in Des Moines. In 1959 they moved to Ogden to farm another 37 years. Married for over 46 years until Vera’s death, they raised three children, Lori, Lynette and David. After farming, he also worked for Hopkin’s Excavating before driving for Youngren Excavating, Inc. until 88 years old.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vera Youngren, brother, Maynard Youngren and sisters, Phyllis Youngren, Elsie Youngren, Eileen Smith, and son-in-law, Randy Huinker,
Dean is survived by his daughters, Lori (Daniel) Day of Earlham, IA; Lynette Huinker of Redding CT, and son David (Mindy) Youngren of Boone, IA. Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, Brent (Angie), Gavin Day and Blake Freese of Winterset, IA; Deanne (Tony) and Abigail Hemker of Bartelso, IL; Lauren Huinker and Leslie Huinker of Redding CT; Jake McKnight, and Mason, Allyanna and Tyler McKnight of Fraser, IA; Drew (Natasha) and Afton McKnight of Ames, IA.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the truly special caregivers who through their loving care and kindnesses have made a difficult a journey easier for Dean and all. Wound and Hyperbaric Center, Boone County Hospital, Israel Family Hospice House, Ames, IA and Wendy Stovers.
Funeral services for Dean will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden, Iowa. Pastor Lyle Hansen will officiate. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden with Graveside Military Rites accorded by the Boone Veterans Council. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.
