Ronald John Halbur was born on May 25, 1937, in Coon Rapids, Iowa, the son of Peter and Anna (Irlmeier) Halbur. He graduated from the Annunciation Catholic School in Coon Rapids, Iowa.
Ron served in the United States Army in the early sixties and spent one year in Korea with the K-9 corp. in maximum security along with his dog Joker. While serving his Country he was also stationed in Colorado, California, and attended training schools in both Iowa, and Aberdeen, Maryland.
On September 9, 1983, Ron was united in marriage to Joyce Jones in Jefferson, Iowa.
Ron farmed northeast of Coon Rapids and raised just about any animal there is in Iowa including cattle, horses, sheep hogs, cats, dogs, peacocks, turkeys, geese, and ducks. In 2005, he sold the farm and moved to Ogden.
Ron belonged to the Conservation Club in the 1970's and raised mostly wild turkeys, pheasants, and quail for them, later releasing them into the wild. Among his hobbies were hunting and fishing, as well as trapping raccoon, mink, beaver, and selling their furs. Ron always planted a large vegetable garden and grew and sold pumpkins for awhile. Ron and his good friend Ray cut down many trees for people over the years and later would run them through a sawmill so that he and Joyce could make furniture, and shelves, among other things.
Ron had a love for the Church. He previously ushered at Annunciation Catholic Church when he was able. After moving to Ogden he attended St. John's Catholic Church until his health prevented him.
Ron loved all of his kids very much.
