Ronald “Red” Lee Williams, formerly of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on September 13, 2024, at Kennybrook Village in Grimes, Iowa.
Red was born on November 3, 1934, in Ogden, Iowa to Ronald and Irma Williams. On August 20, 1954, he married Rose Schmitt. Together they shared two children, Michael and Lori. Anyone who knew “Mama Rose” and “Papa Red” always remembers them being side by side, working as a team for many years. They were true partners in business as well as in life. Together they owned and operated a bona fide Mom and Pop grocery store, first at Williams Food Market, and later at Williams Foodland. Red will be fondly remembered by his former customers for his quality of service, a great place to shop, and even just a place to go shoot the breeze with Red back at the meat counter. Red’s employees respected him for his hardworking Midwestern work ethic.
Red and Rose wholeheartedly loved the community of Ogden. However, in 2015 they made the tough decision to move to Kennybrook Village in Grimes to be closer to their daughter's family, allowing them to spend more time with their grandchildren.
Red is survived by his daughter Lori (Jon)Kalvik of Des Moines, Iowa, grandchildren Katie (Whit) Gastineau of Moore, Oklahoma, Natalie Kalvik and Ross Kalvik, both of Des Moines, two great grandchildren, Racee Gastineau and Charlie Gastineau, sisters Sandy (Larry) Welder and Debbie Holland. He is preceded in death by his wife Rose and his son Michael, brother Richard, sister Lou Ann, and his parents.
A visitation for Red will be held from 1-3 P.M. on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. A graveside service will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden with Pastor Evelyn Lewiston officiating.
