Ruth A. Anderson, 78, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton, Iowa.

A celebration of life for Ruth will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Vicar Michael Gaffey will officiate. Inurnment will follow the service at 2:00 p.m., at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Ruth Ann Johnston was born July 6, 1947, in Jefferson, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Darlene (Lass) Johnston. She was baptized at home and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm. Ruth was a graduate of Grand Community High School.

On February 14, 1965, she was united in marriage to Marvin Dean Anderson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Blairsburg prior to moving to Harcourt in 1968. Ruth was a homemaker, farm wife, and later in life worked as the Librarian at the Dayton Library.

In earlier years, Ruth enjoyed bowling, artec painting, fishing - including many family trips to Lake Winnibigoshish, Minnesota, and spending time with family. She was a longtime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church where she served as treasurer, on church council, and L.C.W.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Anderson of Dayton, IA; children, Mark Anderson of Boxholm, IA, and Teresa (Mike Tempel) Batterson of Kamrar, IA; five grandchildren, Aleah, Haleigh, Brittany, Tanner, and Trey; two great-grandchildren, Caysen, and Ensley; her sister, Tammie (Trent) Johnson of Webster City, IA; brother-in-law, Steve Snowgren of Cairo, MO; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Tempel, son, Michael Anderson in infancy, grandson, Blake Tempel, two sisters, Julie Snowgren and Carol (Mickey) Piper, and her sister-in-law, Sharon Jackson.

Memorials may be left to the Dayton Library.

Ruth’s family would like to thank the staff at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton for the compassionate care they have given Ruth and her family.
