Steven Wertz

Steven D. Wertz peacefully passed away at his home on October 20, 2026. Steve was born on June 14, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He is survived by his sister, Roseann (Tim) Knutson of Campbellsville, Kentucky; two nieces, Brinda Terzich of Chanhassen, Minnesota, and Tenille Goodhue of Muskego, Wisconsin; four great-nieces and great-nephews; and eight great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Betty (Irish) Wertz of Lehigh, Iowa.

As a child, Steve lived with his family in Norway, Iowa, before they settled in Lehigh, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. Steve attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where he earned his master’s degree. After college, he moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, which he made his home.

Throughout his life, Steve created a large circle of friends through the Methodist Church who became his second family. He was very active in his church and lived his life according to his deep faith in God. Steve generously gave his time and talents through his church and by volunteering with organizations in his community that served those in need.

Steve was also an avid runner and proudly earned numerous medals throughout the years.

Steve will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives he touched. Those who knew and loved him can find comfort in knowing that he has gone on to a better place, embraced by the grace of the God in whom he placed his faith throughout his life.

You will be greatly missed, Steve, but never forgotten.

Memorial Service 11 AM on Saturday, November 7, with a visitation one hour prior, at Centennial United Methodist Church – St. Anthony Park Campus; 2200 Hillside Ave. St. Paul. Graveside services for Steven will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 9, 2026, at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh, IA.
