Tex Meeker, 89, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Sunday morning, September 1, 2019, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2019, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Andy Rubenking will officiate. Visitation will be prior to services, starting at 10:00 a.m., at the Church. Following services, Tex will be cremated and burial will be at a later date at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden, Iowa.
Tex Lee Meeker was born on October 1, 1929, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Theodore “Tex” and Margaret (Gillispie) Meeker. As a child he lived in Kansas City, Missouri, and later California. Tex graduated with the Laredo High School class of 1947, in Laredo, Missouri.
He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Barnum at Port Hueneme, Cailifornia. To this union, two sons were born. Terry Lee and Ted Keith Meeker.
Tex was a welder at Peoples Natural Gas for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He had also worked for People’s Natural Gas in Council Bluffs, Milwaukee Railroad where he painted bridges over rivers, and the Union Pacific Railroad.
Tex was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved to fish. He was a friend to all and very generous.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his great granddaughter, Claire Kramer.
Survivors include his fishing buddy and companion of over 30 years, Eleanor Rubenking of Ogden, IA; two sons, Terry (Aggie) Meeker of Higginsville, MO; Ted (Donna) Meeker of Ogden, IA; Eleanor’s family, Raleigh (Joy) Rubenking, Randy (Joan) Rubenking, Andy (Darcy) Rubenking, Aaron (Pam) Rubenking, and Carrie (Gary) Wilson; 15 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
