Theodore "Sonny" Dingman, 86, of Lehigh, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2017, at the Christian Church in Lehigh. Pastor Richard Laird will officiate. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post #1856. Theodore Harold Dingman was born on March 25, 1931, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Harold and LaVonne (Pierce) Dingman. He attended Lehigh Public Schools and following his education worked at the Gypsum Mills in Fort Dodge, Kalo Brick and Tile, and Lehigh Sewer Pipe and Tile. Sonny served in the United States Navy for one year and then served six years in the Navy Reserve. Sonny hauled gravel for Paul's Construction out of Fort Dodge before purchasing his own semi truck at the age of 20 and going to work for Decker Truck Line, driving throughout the midwest for the next three years. He then became employed by Pacific Inter Mountain Express for the next 34 years, living in Denver, Colorado, Chicago, Illinois, and Omaha, Nebraska. After retiring from Pacific Inter Mountain Express in 1991, Sonny returned to Lehigh where he worked for Goodrich Trucking before going into the salvage business for himself. Sonny was an auto race fan and worked for the United States Modified Touring Series, taking photographs at the racetracks.
Survivors include three children, Deborah (Leonard) Schnetter of Pocahontas, Iowa, John (Tracey) Dingman of Lehigh, Iowa, and Dawn Perez of Bellevue, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, Michael Dingman, Katie Dingman, Page Richards, Max, Daniel and Alex Perez, Hunter Summers, and Elaine Summers; four great-grandchildren, Vera Mae, Connor Elijah, Presley Dakota, and Courtney Lynn. His parents, an infant brother and sister, and his son, Craig Dingman, preceded him in death.
Memorials may be left to the Christian Church in Lehigh.
