Verna M. Fischer, 92, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa.
Visitation will be prior to the service, starting at 9:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Pastor Kay Christie will officiate. Inurnment will follow at the Dayton Cemetery. Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton has been entrusted with the arrangements. Verna Mae Stanek was born on October 18, 1928, the daughter of Alois and Gladys “Blanche” (Wohne) Stanek. She was graduate of the Burnside High School.
On October 26, 1947, Verna was united in marriage to Warren “Sonny” Fischer in Fort Dodge. The couple established their home in Dayton.
Verna worked as treasurer/secretary to the superintendent and board of education for the Dayton School System and Southeast Webster School District for over 37 years. She belonged to the Dayton United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Warren “Sonny” Fisher on May 1, 1997.
Survivors include her son, Dan (Judy) Fischer of The Villages, Florida; two granddaughters, Deanna Green of Colfax, Iowa, and Lindsey (Eric) McAndrew of Urbandale, Iowa; and five great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Peyton, Grayson, Jase, and Scout.
